8 Reasons Why I'm not SO SO excited with Adobe Creative Suite 4
- $999 - Photoshop Extended
- $699 - Flash Pro
- $599 - Illustrator
- $199 - Soundbooth
- $799 - Premiere Pro
If I have the chance to win the lottery, I will definitely buy all these applications. It's been always a big pleasure working with multimedia under Adobe products. But still, business is everywhere. There are things that we can't and we can have.
2. Filipino graphic designers (including me), praise to you all!You can now have the Creative Suite 4 on your nearest and friendly Bittorrent site! It's totally free BUT you must abide will all crazy-cracking-serial-input instructions to make it fully functional. One mistake and your toast! Don't worry, you'll never go to jail. Praise to us kababayan!
It's been a long time practice for us that cracking-justlike-stealing applications has been a daily routine. Students doesn't know anymore about licensing issues. They thought Serial/Crack are always part of the installation. What an awareness bummer!
3. I'm always working in LinuxWhen I'm working under Ubuntu Linux + running Compiz Fusion, I've never been as productive as ever been before. Power up Compiz Fusion features has never been buggy and problematic. It's seamless and flies like a butterfly.
4. There's no Linux versionBut let's just !hooray because 64bit and GPU acceleration is now available.
5. Content Aware Scale is already available in GIMP as a plug-in 6. Fireworks has a Lazy CSS feature (you know I'm kidding ayt? ;P)You can now export CSS from your work pane. Export it as a webpage then tara! You now got your XHTML/CSS standard compliance code given to you by Fireworks itself. Lucky to all who already knows how to drive out CSS. But I'm so sad to all dummies that are always feeling lucky. They're be really proud of Fireworks than their own skills in web development.
In contrast. I'm amazed by this feature at the same time, I felt their making designers more idiots. Just like what Linus said "... because in striving to be simple, it has long since reached the point where it simply doesn't do what I need it to do."
7. 3d in PhotoshopPhotoshop CS4 Extended has lots of new 3d features like merging of 2d to 3d, rotate/revolve and real time painting in the 3d object, 2d to 3d conversion and many more. These features are a must have to dummies in 3d. But what if you already know how to use a specific 3d application and can work much better and faster there? This resolves not to use Photoshop for this task because this app has been like-a-standard in 2d imagery AND NOT in 3d. But still, it's good to have these features though.
8. Dreamweaver vs VIMI have been bouncing from one editor to another. I almost embraced Dreamweaver for its massive features. It's unforgivable to say that Dreamweaver is not worth a try for webbies like me. It's a great app! Period.
When I found out about VI or VIM, it was like home for me. It's an editor that roots in 80's made by Bram Moolenaar. Even though it's really really old as of now, it is still alive and kicking. It's a very fast, and feature rich editor. Learning curve is kinda high though, I learned the basics for about a week. But looking at Dreamweaver and VIM. I'll rather choose vim because of it's fast and modal editing. It's really fast. All I can say is that there's no mouse clicking required. Just putting your hands on the keyboard and that's it. Your already fast and coding
Conclusion Adobe made a huge leap among other multimedia applications like Expressions, Open Source Apps and much much more. User intuitiveness and non-destructive work flows can surely bring out all the creativity in oneself. I love Adobe for making these products and features. And I will definitely try them all (using trial version or simply cracking them [what a shame!]). But what's really in store for all of us is the right to choose on what application fits us most. We have a choice and that's what we all have.
