Clients are great at destroying things
Is it really true? I think so but not always.
Most clients have their own knowledge of what they want. They tend to think that design is a pretty simple task. And most designers get persuaded by creating a rash, undesirable, unexpected solutions for them. Of course the output would be desastrous. The more thought, time, and iterations given on a design, the better the output would be. Design is an evolution, definitely not a one stop shop.
Is Massimo Vignelli correct? Yes he sure is. But good clients are always there, it's worth finding them ;) .

It's really true. I believe Mr. Vignelli was referring to BAD horrible clients.
