Ubuntu gets a facelift

A Fresh Look for Ubuntu
The new style of Ubuntu is driven by the theme "Light". We've developed a comprehensive set of visual guidelines and treatments that reflect that style, and are updating key assets like the logo accordingly. The new theme takes effect in 10.04 LTS and will define our look and feel for several years.
Ubuntu 10.04 will have a rebrand on its logo and its main user interface theme. Compared to other releases of Ubuntu, this time we'll be having design guidelines to look into. This is much better than having a new user interface each new release.
Below is my take on the rebrand/redesign of Ubuntu.
Pros
- Finally we can get out of the brown world.
- The font type used in the logo is very clear, and I think it brings out the real meaning of ubuntu.
Cons
- I wonder what font/typeface did they use. WhatTheFont tells me that it is commercial? or they'll be releasing a new font type?
- Why put the "circle of friends" on the upper right and place it in a orange circle? Maybe we can ditch the circle and just let the "circle of friends" talk on its own.
- The left hand window controls is so macish.
- Can we have a revision in the new ui theme? haha
Update
There's also an update on the website design of Ubuntu and its community. Hmmmm, this rebrand is getting attention by its overall design identity.

This rebrand will start a new realm for Ubuntu. Everything will have a fluent design language all over its domain. And I hope we can retain and stand this brand along the way. And hopefully have this identity that new users will likely enjoy having.
How about you, what do you think of the rebrand?
